The National Police Uses The Principle Of Nationality To Snare Jozeph Paul Zhang
JAKARTA - The National Police emphasized that they could still process the criminal charges of Jozeph Paul Zhang alias Shindy Paul Soerjomeoljono with Indonesian law. Because in law enforcement, Indonesia uses the principle of nationality.
Head of Public Relations Division of the National Police, Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan, said that using this principle all Indonesian citizens could be prosecuted. Although the manufacture was not carried out in Indonesia.
"Now there is one principle of nationality, all Indonesian citizens commit criminal acts anywhere, they can be processed according to the laws in force in Indonesia, that's the name of the principle of nationality," Ramadhan told reporters, Tuesday, April 20.
Because Jozeph Paul Zhang is still an Indonesian citizen, the National Police can process crimes under Indonesian law. In fact, he has an obligation to obey these rules.
"So as long as JPZ is an Indonesian citizen, he wants him to commit a crime in country A, in B, C it can be processed in Indonesia, the principle of nationality is used. That is the principle that applies in criminal law in Indonesia," he said.
Not only that, Ramadhan said that Indonesia also adheres to the principle of territoriality. This principle can only process the law of a person who commits a crime in Indonesia. So this principle is not used in the case of Jozeph Paul Zhang.
"If we talk about the principle of territoriality, meaning that it applies to all citizens of any country who commits a criminal act in Indonesia it can be processed, that is the principle of territory," he said.
Previously, Jozeph Paul Zhang, through a video uploaded on the YouTube account Hagios Europe, said that he had given up Indonesian citizenship status. He didn't think he could be caught.
However, the National Police denied Jozeph Paul Zhang's revocation of Indonesian citizenship. Because, based on the data there is no revocation of citizenship with that name.
