Weather Modifications For 5 Days In A Row, Jakarta Rainfall Decreased By 50 Percent

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) together with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Indonesian Air Force, and PT RAI have carried out weather modification operations (OMC) in Jakarta for 5 consecutive days.

BMKG Weather Modification Deputy Tri Handoko Seto said, from the weather modifications since early February, it was recorded that Jakarta's accumulation of rainfall decreased by 50 percent.

So, today, in general, the weather is predicted to be cloudy to rain with moderate intensity.

"The potential for light-medium rain in the early hours of the morning is in the northern waters of Jakarta", Tri said in his statement, Wednesday, February 5.

This weather modification, continued Tri, was carried out because there was a potential for cloud growth in the western part of Jakarta and Java caused by active Rossby Equator Waves in the southern waters of West Java and negative OLR in western Java.

"The atmospheric disturbances are due to the active Rossby Equator Waves in the southern waters of West Java and OLR which support the growth of rain clouds in the western part of Java and also Jakarta," he explained.

Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD Logistics and Equipment Sub-group Michael Sitanggang said, today's OMC flights were carried out as many as 2 sorties using 1,600 kg of materials in the same name as NaCl with a target target for the Southwest-Northwest region.

"The first seeding at 10.30-13.00 WIB was carried out in the Sunda Strait waters. While the second seeding was carried out at 14:45-16.55 WIB which was carried out in the Sunda Strait and Ujung Kulon waters", said Michael.

The total amount of material semai NaCl that has been used since early February to date is 4,800 kg.

Furthermore, the weather modification will continue on the sixth day or last day, February 6, 2025, with a flight plan of 2 pieces by bringing 800 kg of material each means.
