Searches For Metro TV Journalists Victims Of The Ternate Basarnas Speedboat Explosion Continued Today

The joint SAR team continues to search for Sahril Helmi, a Metro TV journalist who went missing in the speedboat explosion incident belonging to the Ternate Search and Rescue Office or Basarnas on Sunday. Until the second day of the search, the victim had not been found.

Basarnas Ternate has deployed KN SAR 237 Pandudewanata to comb through the accident site in the waters of Oba District, Tidore Islands City, North Maluku. The search was expanded to the waters of small islands in Kayoa District, South Halmahera Regency.

According to Sujono, the captain of the KN SAR Pandudewanata ship, the search was carried out by expanding the area from the incident point.

"Search with an area as far as 22 minutes of mail in the surrounding area west of Gita Island and arriving to the east of Kayoa Island, and to the northwest of Makian Island," said Sujono, Tuesday, February 4.

The search also involves local communities and fishermen. Until now, signs of the victim's whereabouts have not been found.

Sujono added that the weather conditions on the second day of the search were better than the previous day, so the search could run smoothly without a hitch.

"The weather improved, so the search was expanded following the direction of the current to the west of Kayoa Island. However, so far the victim has not been found," he explained.

Sahril Helmi participated in the search for two fishermen who were missing in the Tidore Islands waters on Sunday (2/2/2025). However, the speedboat that the SAR team and a journalist were traveling in experienced an explosion.

As a result of this incident, it was recorded that three people died, seven people survived with injuries, and one person is still being searched.
