Danish Prime Minister Response US Secretary Of State: Greendland Not For Sale

JAKARTA - Greenland is not for sale. This affirmation was again conveyed by Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said President Donald Trump's interest in acquiring the island was "not a joke".

Greenland is currently part of the Danish kingdom. It is part of our territory, and is not for sale," he said ahead of the informal meeting of EU leaders in Brussels.

Trump said he would make Denmark's autonomous territory part of the United States, and did not rule out using military or economic power to persuade Denmark to give up the region.

Fredriksen said his party agrees with the US view that the Arctic region is becoming increasingly important when it comes to security and defense.

"So if this wants to secure our territory in the world, we can find a way forward," he said.
