Perbasi Ready to Send National Basketball Team to 2025 SEA Games

JAKARTA – The Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) will prepare as best as possible to send the Indonesian National Basketball Team to the 2025 SEA Games.

The multi-branch event between Southeast Asian countries will take place on December 7-19, 2025 in three major cities in Thailand, namely Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla.

"We will try. We want the preparation level for the competition and the coaching of the Indonesian National Basketball Team to be systematic and structurally as good as possible," said Perbasi Chairman Budisatrio Djiwandono after being inaugurated with the new management for the 2024-2028 term.

To face the event, Perbasi also plans to approach Indonesian heritage players in addition to the coaching of young players that is currently being carried out.

Budi said that regarding heritage players, it is not only Indonesia that is doing it, but Thailand is also currently actively pursuing it.

"If I'm not mistaken, there are around five to six players who are currently in friendly countries such as the United States. We are trying to make this a heritage player for Indonesia," he said.

Indonesian basketball in the last two editions of the SEA Games has won gold medals. Starting with the Indonesian Men's National Basketball Team which won it in the 2022 edition by defeating the top country, the Philippines.

The Indonesian Women's National Basketball Team then followed in that footsteps in the 2023 edition. This is the first time in the history of the SEA Games that the Indonesian National Basketball Team has won gold medals in both categories.
