YouTube Expands Community Features To More Creators

JAKARTA YouTube creators who want to interact directly with fans usually take advantage of third-party applications such as Discord. In the near future, this is no longer necessary.

When holding Made on YouTube last year, this Google-owned video platform launched a feature called Community. When it was first introduced, this Community feature was indeed limited, but now YouTube plans to expand its features to more users.

"We've tested the Community with a small group of creators and have heard positive feedback. That's why we're excited to continue expanding access!" YouTube said on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

Although the feature wants to be expanded, the creator has not been able to apply for Community creation freely. Only creators who receive invitations can activate the Community. This invitation will be sent via email or banner on the channel page.

To enable Communities, creators only need to click the Community Open button on the banner they see. There are several policies that YouTube manages at the Help Center so that creators need to learn the features first.

In addition to activating Communities, creators also have the option to disable the feature. Steps to end the Community are also available at the YouTube Help Center.

For now, the special space connecting creators and spectators is only available on mobile devices so users are required to download the application. They can share the latest information or build relationships.

Interestingly, the Community implements a two-way interaction system so that viewers can also share uploads. With this capability, YouTube provides a moderation tool for creators so that they can control who can upload in the Community.

"Both channel owners and viewers can create and share uploads so that reciprocal conversations and connections between fans are established," explained YouTube.
