Correcting The Discourse Of 4 Working Days A Week, Pramono: Not Yet A Decision

JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung was elected to straighten out the discourse on implementing the 4 working day system in a week when he started to lead Jakarta. This discourse was previously revealed by a member of the Pramono-Rano transition team who is also a city planning expert, Nirwono Joga.

"Indeed, a member of the transition team once conveyed about a working period of 4 days. I want to clarify that it has not become a decision," said Pramono in the Ancol area, North Jakarta, Friday, January 31.

Pramono admitted that he had indeed discussed a work from anywhere system for employees who work in Jakarta. The goal is to reduce the volume of traffic jams. However, Pramono admitted that this discourse has not been a priority.

"So the work is still for 5 days, but we will encourage what is called work from everywhere like I did when I was Cabinet Secretary," said Pramono.

Pramono reiterated that the main spirit of himself and the elected Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, as outlined in the priority program, was to improve the lives of the people below. One of them is fixing solid housing.

"That's what needs to be improved in Jakarta. Apart from the problem of sidewalks, congestion, traffic, floods yesterday, and so on," he explained.

Previously, a member of the Pramono-Rano transition team, Nirwono Joga, said that Pramono Anung plans to implement a four-day work system in one week in Jakarta. In a sense, there is an addition of one holiday other than the weekend on Saturdays and Sundays.

This was revealed by a city planning expert who is also a member of the Pramono-Rano transition team, Nirwono Joga in a joint discussion with the PDIP faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

"This is another trend in European cities actually, in Scandinavia. What is it? Reduction of weekdays. Four working days. Four working days are one of the things being initiated (Pramono)," said Nirwono at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building, Tuesday, January 21.

However, this four-day working system is only applied during the peak of the rainy season or peak of the dry season. Given, during the rainy season, Jakarta is often hit by floods. Traffic congestion is increasing due to vehicles having difficulty crossing inundation points.

Then during the dry season, the level of air pollution in Jakarta is often high. In fact, Jakarta is often one of the most polluting big cities in the world.

However, this 4-day work plan still needs to be finalized by the DKI Provincial Government when Pramono-Rano starts to lead Jakarta, and is coordinated with the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

Nirwono said that the local government in Jakarta must determine whether in adding one holiday to the office it still requires employees to work from home and students to study at home or to be completely closed.

"Of course what is the homework for 4 working days is what day to take off. What is the system? Is it a day off that is really a holiday, or is it still in the context of work from home, or work from anywhere," explained Nirwono.
