Early Warning For Floods In 12 Cities / Regencies Of Riau Has Been Delivered, Residents On Riverbanks Please Be Alert
RIAU - Head of the Riau Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Edy Afrizal reminded and asked people around the riverbanks to be aware of flooding.
This is because the water around the river can overflow at any time if the rainfall is high.
"The potential for flooding can occur due to the high intensity of rain that has occurred in almost all areas of Riau Province in the last few days, and all need to increase vigilance," said Head of Riau BPBD, Edy Afrizal in a statement in Pekanbaru quoted by Antara, Monday, April 19.
According to him, an early warning regarding the potential for flooding had been conveyed to BPBD 12 districts / cities in Riau. The potential for disaster is also due to the existence of tropical cyclone seeds.
"We have sent a circular letter related to increasing awareness of tropical cyclones to BPBD 12 districts / cities. This letter also follows up on a circular from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB)," said Edy.
He said several areas in Riau that need to be aware of flash floods and landslides are in Rokan Hulu, Kampar, Pelalawan, and Indragiri Hulu Regencies because these locations are crossed by large rivers and also have hilly areas.
"Areas that need to be aware of landslides and flash floods are the Regencies of Rokan Hulu, Kampar, Pelalawan and Indragiri Hilir. Pekanbaru is also currently prone to flooding at several points," he said.
Apart from these locations, areas that need to be aware of the potential for tropical cyclones are the coastal areas of Riau.
"Especially for service activities because it is feared that high waves could appear at any time," he said.
