DPR Asks Government To Form A Team To Investigate PMI Shooting In Malaysia

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR RI By Soleh asked the Indonesian government to form an investigative team to thoroughly investigate the shooting of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Malaysia.

"The Indonesian government must work hard to thoroughly investigate the case. Justice must be upheld, and of course it depends on the diplomacy carried out by the Indonesian government," Soleh said in his statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Therefore, he asked all relevant agencies to immediately coordinate and sit down together to resolve the issue.

He said that the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu), the National Police, and the TNI were asked to move together.

In addition, the government must send a diplomatic note to the Malaysian government.

According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, must ask for an explanation from the Malaysian authorities regarding the case.

"Through diplomatic channels, the government must ask Malaysia to be open. Don't cover up anything," he said.

He also said that the government must provide legal assistance to the victims, as well as take care of returning the bodies of the victims to Indonesia. In addition, the injured victims must also be brought back to their homeland.

Soleh conveyed his deep sorrow to the five shooting victims who were carried out by Malaysian maritime officers, causing one person to die and three people injured.

He also strongly condemned the shooting carried out by the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency (APMM) officers to five Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).

"We are deeply saddened by this incident. Hopefully the bereaved family will be given patience. This incident should not happen again," he said.
