Beatles Musician Paul McCartney Warns British Government About AI Dangers
JAKARTA Paul McCartney, a musician who had joined the Beatles group, warned of the dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for musicians. This technology is considered to be able to rob any artist's 'work'.
Therefore, Paul urged the British government to protect the creative industry. The musician also asked the government to ensure copyright reform so that singers or songrs will not be harmed by AI technology that continues to develop.
This statement was made because the UK plans to license artists' works in AI training. In December, the government proposed this method because the music and film industry is now side by side with technology, particularly AI.
In response to the plan, McCartney said he was worried. Tech giants can take advantage of training their AI models using the work of musicians, but on the other hand copyright protection isn't too strong.
"AI is a great thing, but it shouldn't harm creative people," McCartney said, quoted by Reuters. "Make sure you protect creative thinkers, creative artists, or you won't have them. That's as simple as that."
McCartney realized that AI is also useful for artists. The reason is, he had created the voice of the Beatles band member, John Lennon, from old cassette recordings. This sophistication is considered risky if the government does not properly monitor it.
"What actually happened was, the money went somewhere and got into the streaming platform - someone got it, and it had to be done by the person who made it. It shouldn't just be done by the tech giant somewhere," McCartney said.
