Will Send Diplomatic Notes, RI Urges The Shooting Of Indonesian Citizens By Malaysian Maritime Apparatus To Be Investigated
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur urged Malaysia to investigate the death of an Indonesian citizen (WNI) who was allegedly shot by Malaysian maritime officials. A diplomatic memorandum will be sent because it is suspected that there was excessive use of force.
"The Indonesian Embassy will also send a diplomatic note to encourage an investigation into the incident, including the possibility of using the exercise use of force," said Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) Judha Nugraha quoted on Monday, January 27.
Judha also said that the Indonesian Embassy would ask for consular access to see the bodies and meet the injured victims. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur will continue to monitor the handling of this case by the Malaysian authorities," he said.
Consululant assistance will also be given to Indonesian citizens who are victims. Moreover, Judha said, the Indonesian Embassy had communicated with the Malaysian Police (PDRM) which confirmed the shooting incident.
The Indonesian citizens are suspected of leaving Malaysia through illegal channels. They were said to have resisted until a shooting by the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency resulted in the death of an Indonesian citizen and several injuries.
The incident occurred in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Selangor, Malaysia. "The data on the victims is still being investigated," said Judha.

As previously reported, the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) strongly condemns the excessive use of force in the shooting incident by the Malaysian maritime authorities, the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency (APMM) against five Indonesian citizens (WNI). The investigation was requested to be carried out immediately.
"KemenP2MI urges the Malaysian government to immediately investigate this incident and take firm action against APMM patrol officers if they are proven to have taken actions involving the use of excessive force or exercise use of force," said Deputy Minister of P2MI Christina Aryani as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, January 26.
