Gerald Vanenburg Officially Becomes U-23 National Team Coach
JAKARTA Gerald Vanenburg has been officially appointed as coach of the U-23 Indonesian national team. He also joined Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat to help Patrick Kluivert in the senior national team. PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir said that Gerald has a myriad of experiences needed to help the Indonesian national team. "We are very happy that he wants to join and hope to contribute to the success of Indonesian football," Erick said in an official statement received. In addition, Gerald will also cooperate with the U-20 and U-17 Indonesian national teams. His task is to ensure alignment at every level of the Indonesian national team.Gerald Vanenburg is an influential figure in football, both inside and outside the field. During his heyday with Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, he played 372 matches. In that time he managed to score 112 goals and collect 15 titles in European competitions. One of the prestigious titles is the 1988 European Cup with PSV. As for the Dutch national team, he collected more than 40 caps. He represented his country in the 1990 World Cup and played an important role in the historic title of the orange team in the 1988 European Cup with Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, and Frank Rijkaard. Patrick Kluiver said that Gerald has everything the team needed. He has the quality, skill, consistency, and mentality of the champion. "Working with his teammates like Gerald is very important to achieve our common vision of progress and success," said Kluiver.

Vanenburg immediately turned to coach after retiring. He worked with young talents and helped form the next generation of footballers with high dedication as when he was still active as a player. Gerald admitted that he was very proud of the opportunity he got with the Indonesian national team. He also promised to give all his knowledge wholeheartedly.
