Indonesian Embassy In Singapore Facilitates Temporary Detention Of Paulus Tannos
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Singapore has facilitated the provisional arrest process (provisional arrest) against a fugitive in an electronic ID card procurement corruption case, Paulus Tannos alias Thian Po Tjhin (PT).
The Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Suryo Pratomo said that this temporary detention was the first step in the PT extradition process.
"Provisional arrests are granted for a period of 45 days. In this period, the Indonesian government through related institutions will complement the formal request and documents needed for the extradition process," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 24.
The detention was carried out after the Singapore Court granted a provisional arrest request (PAR) from the Government of Indonesia on January 17, 2025.
The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore is collaborating with the Attorney General's attach and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to facilitate the PAR process from the start through intensive coordination with the Singapore Attorney General's Office and the anti-corruption agency CORrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
"This is the first implementation of the RI-Singapore Extradition Agreement, which shows the commitment of the two countries in enforcing the law and the results of the bilateral agreement," he added.
The Ambassador also emphasized that the main purpose of this extradition was to continue the legal process against Paulus Tannos in Indonesia.

"In accordance with the principle of extradition, extradition is carried out for criminal prosecution. Therefore, the two countries ensure that all procedural legal requirements are met," he said.
This temporary detention process provides time for the Indonesian government to complete the formal documents needed with a predetermined time limit, it is hoped that the bilateral cooperation can strengthen law enforcement in both countries.
