The Speaker Of The House Of Representatives Ensures To Involve Public Participation In Discussion Of The Minerba Bill

JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani responded to the polemic of the revision of the Mineral and Coal Law (RUU Minerba) which has been ratified as a DPR initiative bill. This bill received public attention because one of the points allowed universities to obtain mining business permits.

"(The discussion) has gone through the mechanism in the DPR through rapid and Bamus, and later a participation meansful. We ask friends in Baleg (Legalislation Agency) to open input from outside," said Puan, Thursday, January 24.

"Also coming to campuses, inviting sources to get input, so open up," he continued.

Puan also emphasized that the discussion about the Minerba Bill had gone through existing processes and mechanisms. He said the DPR always opens itself to input or participation from the community in the preparation of legislation.

"So it wasn't sudden. It was discussed yesterday in Bamus and we have also conveyed the conversation to the government. This discussion is not only the DPR, but also with the government," said Puan.

"We with the government agreed to implement this, open ourselves up to accepting inputs," he added.

Previously, the DPR Plenary Session approved the Revision of the Law (RUU) on the Fourth Amendment to Law Number 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining (Minerba), as an Initiative of the DPR. This approval was taken after the DPR Legislation Body (Baleg) agreed to continue discussing the revision of the Minerba Law in a plenary meeting on Monday, January 20, evening.

"We ask for the approval of the meeting, can the results of the drafting of the Law on the Fourth Amendment to Law Number 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining be processed further in accordance with statutory regulations?" asked Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan.
