Handal Motor Indonesia Welcomes Collaboration with Geely to Assemble Cars in Indonesia

JAKARTA - Automotive manufacturers from China continue to arrive, most recently there is Geely who is back in Indonesia with the mainstay model EX5.

Not only presenting a new model, Geely also emphasized his commitment in Indonesia by cooperating with PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) to conduct local assembly.

PT Handal Indonesia Motor Chief Executive Officer Denny Siregar, said Handal Motor Indonesia also welcomed the collaboration that took place in early 2025.

According to him, this is a good opportunity to be able to cooperate with Geely because this has been awaited for a long time since 2018 when he visited Geely.

"Currently this dream has come true, this is a big step, once again it is an joy for us to be able to work with Geely. We also hope for productive cooperation, for the future of the sustainable Indonesian automotive industry," he said, in an official statement received on Thursday, January 23.

On the same occasion, Geely Auto Indonesia Managing Director Victor Gao, said the move was also Geely's effort to improve local manufacturing capabilities and contribute to the development of the automotive industry in the country.

"We are very happy, after a long period of time, we are finally officially partners, and we are a family from now on. So, in the future, this collaboration will be very useful to support each other," said Gao.

This partnership is in line with the target of the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) in Indonesia. Initial production will include EX5, with a development plan for the Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) models.

"We also hope for productive cooperation, for the future of Indonesia's sustainable automotive industry. We believe Geely will be one of the largest brands in Indonesia, in the future," concluded Denny.
