The First Session Of The Panji Gumilang TPPU, The Indramayu District Court Calls The Presenting Of The Defendant's Wives And Children The Prosecutor's Authority

JAKARTA - The Indramayu District Court (PN) held its first trial of the alleged money laundering case (TPPU) with the defendant Panji Gumilang on Thursday, January 23.

"Today is the agenda of the first trial, namely the reading of the indictment, for the trial of case number 20/Pid.Sus/2024/PN.Idm on behalf of the defendant Panji Gumilang," said Indramayu District Court spokesman Adrian Anju Purba in Indramayu, West Java, Thursday, January 23, quoted by Antara.

He explained, in this inaugural trial, the public prosecutor (JPU) submitted a number of cumulatively prepared charges related to alleged violations of the law by the head of the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Indramayu.

Adrian said the indictment refers to Article 70 in conjunction with Article 5 of Law (UU) Number 28 of 2004 concerning Amendments to Law Number 16 of 2001 concerning Foundations.

In addition, he said, other charges refer to Article 3 of Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning Money Laundering.

"This indictment is related to the crime of money laundering, because this case cannot stand alone without the main crime," he said.

According to him, the trial this time went smoothly because the public prosecutor could mention several violations committed by the defendant in the case.

Responding to the possibility of the presence of the defendant's wife and child in court, Adrian emphasized that this was under the authority of the prosecutor as the party in charge of proving the indictment.

Adrian added that the follow-up trial of the TPPU case was held on February 6, 2025, with the agenda of a memorandum of objection or exception from the defendant's legal advisor on the indictment filed by the prosecutor.

According to him, the two-week delay was decided by the panel of judges due to a national holiday.

"The panel of judges has postponed the trial to ensure that the trial process in the future runs smoothly," he said.

After the inaugural trial ended, Panji Gumilang revealed that his party was currently preparing to prepare an exception which would later be presented at the follow-up trial.
