Improve Cement Transport Services, KAI Reactivation Of Goods Terminals Of Kretek Station

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik), a subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is trying to optimize the operations of the distribution of cement transportation in the Central Java region. One way, through the reactivation of the Goods Terminal of Kretek Station.

The Kretek Station Goods Terminal itself was first built in 2015 with the aim of supporting logistics delivery, especially serving cement company customers via the Kretek Station route of the Klari Station.

However, this terminal operation was stopped in mid-2017. Now, the terminal has been officially reactivated as part of KAI Logistics' efforts to optimize the cement distribution network, especially in meeting cement logistics needs in the southern region of Central Java.

KAI Logistics Operations Director, Heri Siswanto, explained that the operation of the Kretek Station Goods Terminal is targeted to be able to contribute transportation volume of 1,280 tons per day or equivalent to 32,000 tons per month.

"This Terminal is expected to contribute 30 percent of the total distribution of cement transportation by the relationship between Nambo and Arjawinangun stations. In the future, this volume is projected to continue to increase along with the growth in market needs," he said in an official statement, Thursday, January 23.

In addition, Heri said that the reactivation of the Goods Terminal of Kretek Station not only increased logistics distribution, but also contributed to reducing carbon emissions.

"We continue to encourage the use of rail modes as an environmentally friendly logistics solution or green logistics. By diverting cement transportation from land modes, namely trucks to trains, we hope to reduce air pollution levels and maintain road lifetime," said Heri.

According to Heri, the re-operation of Kretek Station contributed greatly to the efficiency of distribution time. The distribution of cement from the Cirebon Palimanan Factory to a warehouse in Wangon previously took about 10 to 12 hours by truck. But with trains, he said, the travel time could be shortened to only about 5 hours.

"This step not only provides more efficient logistics solutions, but is also in line with the government's efforts to reduce the use of trucks that can cause Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) problems on the highway," he said.

The reactivation of the Kretek Station Goods Terminal is clear evidence of KAI Logistics' commitment to supporting national economic growth through reliable and efficient logistics services. This step is also in line with KAI Logistics' vision to become an integrated logistics solution provider that prioritizes sustainability.

"We will continue to innovate to provide the best service for customers and support the development of logistics infrastructure in Indonesia," concluded Heri.
