Megawati Celebrates 78th Anniversary In A Simple Way With Family And Friends

JAKARTA - The chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri has her 78th birthday today, Thursday, January 23. There was no special celebration that was held because she chose to celebrate it simply with her closest people.

"Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri herself celebrates simply with her family, friends," said PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto in a written statement, Thursday, January 23.

Hasto did not specify where the celebration was held but representatives of cadres would also attend the activity. Because Megawati has become the largest part of the PDIP.

Hasto said, the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia is not only the general chairman but also like a mother to cadres. "We are bounded ideologically, spiritually, historically, and also with the whole nature of thought, nature of taste, and track record of Mrs. Mega who is known to be very strong in maintaining the constitution and democracy," he said.

Furthermore, Hasto said that there are various ways that cadres do to celebrate Megawati's birthday. Among them is planting trees to holding cultural stages.

Planting trees, continued Hasto, is said to be the way Megawati has always ordered in an effort to preserve the earth.

"We were taught by Mrs. Mega that politics touches all aspects of life. The movement to care for the earth expresses Mother Mega's love for the motherland," he said.
