Today's Weather, Rain Still Dominates Majority Of Big Cities In Indonesia

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the majority of major cities in Indonesia will still be dominated by rain on Thursday, January 23, 2025. This weather covers western, central, to eastern parts of Indonesia.

BMKG forecaster, Sentia Arianti, said that in the Sumatra area, thick cloudy weather is expected to occur in Jambi and Pekanbaru.

Light rain is predicted to occur in Banda Aceh, Medan, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, and Palembang. Meanwhile, moderate rain is expected to hit Padang, and rain accompanied by lightning has the potential to occur in Tanjung Pinang and Bandar Lampung.

On the island of Java, light rain is predicted to fall in Serang, Semarang, and Yogyakarta. Meanwhile, people in Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya need to be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning.

For the Kalimantan region, light rain is expected to hit Banjarmasin and Samarinda. Rain with moderate intensity will occur in Pontianak, while thunderstorms are predicted to hit Tanjung Selor and Palangkaraya.

In Sulawesi, thick cloudy weather is expected to occur in Gorontalo, while light rain will fall in Manado, Makassar, and Palu. BMKG also predicts heavy rain in Mamuju and thunderstorms in Kendari.

In eastern Indonesia, most areas will experience rain. Light rain is expected to occur in Ternate, Ambon, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya. Sorong and Nabire have the potential to experience moderate rain, while rain accompanied by lightning is expected to occur in Merauke.

BMKG appealed to the public to remain alert to the potential for extreme weather, especially heavy rain accompanied by lightning in several areas.
