Menpora Amali Targets Indonesia To Be Top 5 In The 2044 Olympics
JAKARTA - The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali is targeting the Indonesian contingent to break into the top five of the medal standings at the 2044 Olympics. Amali emphasized that this target has been studied.
"I think this is not just a matter of putting a number, but the result of discussions with sports professors. So at the 2044 Olympics we are targeting Indonesia to enter the top five in the world, ”said Menpora Amali in a virtual press conference, Sunday, April 18.
In fact, according to Amali, the draft long-term target of Indonesian sports achievement has also been announced in the National Sports Grand Design, and has been submitted to President Joko Widodo. Where the Olympics were held one year before Indonesia's 100th year of independence.
"We will compile this National Sports Grand Design until 100 years of independence or in 2045," he said.
Apart from the Olympics, the Menpora also hopes that athletes can achieve the target in the 2044 Paralympic event.
It is known, throughout its participation in the Olympics, the Red and White contingent has collected 32 medals, consisting of seven gold medals, 13 silver and 12 bronze medals.
Indonesia's best ranking was won at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in which Merah Putih was in 24th position.
Not only for the 2044 Olympics, the Menpora also have big ambitions for the 2032 Olympics. Indonesia has set a target to break into the top 10 if chosen to host the 2032 Olympics.
In the bidding, Indonesia will compete with several major countries, including Brisbane (Australia), Doha (Qatar), and Seoul-Pyongyang (South Korea-North Korea).
