On Wednesday, Rupiah Raised 20 Points To Level Rp. 16,180 Per US Dollar

JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on the spot market strengthened slightly at the opening of trading on Wednesday, April 8. The rupiah opened by 0.12 percent or 20 points to the level of Rp. 16,180 per US dollar.

Monex Investindo Futures Head Researcher, Ariston Tjendra said, although the opening was strong, negative sentiment returned to financial markets after data on virus mortality rates in the US and Europe showed a sharp increase.

The market too, he said, returned to safe havens such as the US dollar. "The rupiah has the potential to weaken today with a potential range of IDR 16,150-16,350 per US dollar," Ariston told VOI.

This morning, several currencies in the Asian region strengthened against the US dollar, including the strengthening Indian rupee, 0.43 percent, the South Korean won and the Philippine peso both gaining 0.07 percent.

Meanwhile, the Chinese yuan this morning was the weakest against the US dollar, where the Panda's currency weakened 0.35 percent, followed by the Thai baht 0.32 percent, the Singapore dollar 0.26 percent, the Malaysian ringgit 0.17 percent and the Taiwan dollar. 0.07 percent.
