10 People Died In Fire At Turkish Ski Resort Hotel
JAKARTA - A fire at a ski resort hotel in the mountains of Bolu, Turkey, killed 10 people. Panicn guests jumped out the window in the middle of the night. More than 30 people were injured.
The fire occurred at around 03.30, Tuesday, January 21, at the Grand Kartal 11 Hotel restaurant, Kartalkaya.
A fire engine surrounded the charred building, with white sheets tied and hung in one of the windows of the upper floor.
A guest told NTV he saw people panicking and jumping out the window to escape. Others told Ekol TV he and his family woke up as the fire entered the smoke-filled corridor and finally jumped from the downstairs window.
Reported by Reuters, Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydin said there were 234 guests at a wooden-walled hotel lying on the bottom of several ski slopes that were still burning in the afternoon.
Authorities said they were investigating the cause of the fire.
This fire incident coincided with a school vacation when many families from around Istanbul and Ankara went to the Bolu mountains to ski.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya gave the latest number of victims, namely 10 people were killed and 32 injured. More than 250 rescue teams were at the scene.
