Erick Thohir Is Not Worried About FlyJaya Being A Competitor For BUMN Airlines

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir has opened his voice regarding the emergence of a new airline in Indonesia, PT Surya Mataram Nusantara (Fly Jaya), which will become a new competitor for state-owned airlines.

Erick admitted that he was not worried about the presence of the new competitor. He said the market or airport user market is also quite large.

Furthermore, Erick admitted that he would maximize the services of state-owned airlines, be it PT Garuda Indonesia, PT Citilink Indonesia, and PT Pelita Air Service.

"We from BUMN maximize, of course, Pelita, Garuda, or Citilink to the maximum, I think the market is quite large," he said at a press conference at the Ministry of SOEs Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 21.

Erick also compared domestic flights in other countries such as China and the United States (US) with much greater potential. According to him, Indonesia must follow in the footsteps of the country to increase the number of airlines.

Therefore, Erick assessed that new airlines are needed in Indonesia to accommodate large demand. Moreover, currently the number of aircraft fleets is still inadequate.

Indonesia needs 750 aircraft, today's conditions are only 410 for domestic services. So of course whoever invests in increasing the number of aircraft must certainly be welcomed," he said.

For your information, citing the official Instagram @flyjaya, a new airline, FlyJaya will be here to bring a safer, more comfortable, and reliable flight experience in 2025. FlyJaya will use the AT 72-500 fleet to serve domestic flights in Indonesia.
