Digital Tax Revenue Reaches IDR 32.32 Trillion Throughout 2024
The Directorate General of Taxes (Directorate General of Taxes) of the Ministry of Finance recorded that until December 31, 2024, acceptance from the digital economy business sector was IDR 32.32 trillion.
Director of Counseling for Services and Public Relations of the Directorate General of Taxes Dwi Astuti said that the tax revenue came from the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) for Trade Through Electronic Systems (PMSE) of Rp. 25.35 trillion, crypto tax of Rp. 1.09 trillion, fintech tax (P2P lending) of Rp. 3.03 trillion,
Furthermore, taxes collected by other parties on goods and/or services procurement transactions through the Government Procurement Information System (SIPP tax) amounted to Rp2.85 trillion.
Meanwhile, until December 2024, the government has appointed 211 PMSE business actors to be the Value Added Tax (VAT) collectors. This number includes thirteen PMSE VAT collection appointments, three PMSE corrections or changes to PMSE VAT collection data, and one revocation of PMSE VAT collection in December.
The appointments in December 2024 are Pearson Education Limited, Navian Games GmbH, GetYourGuide Deutschland GmbH, GW Solutions Ltd, Servicios Comerciales Amazon Mexico, S. de RL de CV, 1Global Operations (Netherlands) BV, Wargaming Group Limited, StudeerSnel BV, JustAnswer LLC, Trello Inc., RealtimeBoard Inc., Boutique Limited, and Kajabi LLC.
Then, the corrections in December 2024 are PCCW Vuclip (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., New York Times Digital LLC, and LNRS Data Services Limited. Revocation in December 2024 is Hotels.com, LP.
Of the total polling that had been appointed, Dwi said that 174 PMSE had collected and deposited PMSE VAT amounting to Rp25.35 trillion.
"This amount comes from IDR 731.4 billion in deposits in 2020, IDR 3.90 trillion in deposits in 2021, IDR 5.51 trillion in deposits in 2022, IDR 6.76 trillion in deposits in 2023, and IDR 8.44 trillion in deposits in 2024," he said in his statement, Tuesday, January 21.
Furthermore, crypto tax revenues have been collected amounting to Rp1.09 trillion until December 2024. The receipts come from Rp246.45 billion in revenues in 2022, Rp220.83 billion in revenues in 2023, and Rp620.4 billion in 2024.
Then the crypto tax revenue consists of Rp510.56 billion in PPh 22 receipts for crypto sales transactions on exchangers and Rp577.12 billion in VAT DN receipts for crypto purchase transactions on exchangers.
Dwi conveyed that the fintech tax (P2P lending) has also contributed to tax revenues of Rp3.03 trillion until December 2024. Revenue from fintech taxes comes from Rp446.39 billion in revenues in 2022, Rp1.11 trillion in revenues in 2023, and Rp1.48 trillion in revenues in 2024.
"The fintech tax consists of PPh 23 on loan interest received by WPDN and BUT amounting to Rp816.85 billion, PPh 26 for loan interest received by WPLN amounting to Rp647.86 billion, and VAT DN for period deposits of Rp1.57 trillion," he explained.
Dwi added that tax revenues for other digital economy businesses came from SIPP tax revenues. As of December 2024, it was IDR 2.85 trillion.

The receipt from the SIPP tax came from Rp402.38 billion in revenue in 2022, amounting to Rp1.12 trillion in revenue in 2023, and Rp1.33 trillion in revenue in 2024. Then, SIPP tax revenue consists of PPh of Rp191.71 billion and VAT of Rp2.66 trillion.
"In order to create justice and equal business (level playing field) for business actors, both conventional and digital, the government will continue to appoint PMSE business actors who sell products and provide digital services from abroad to consumers in Indonesia," said Dwi.
Dwi added that the government will explore the potential for other digital economy business tax revenues such as crypto taxes on crypto asset trading transactions, fintech taxes on loan interest paid by loan recipients, and SIPP taxes on goods and/or services procurement transactions through the Government Procurement Information System.
