Palace Confirms MBG Program Is Strictly Managed, Responds To Alleged Extortion In Tangerang

JAKARTA Spokesperson for the Presidential Office, Philips Vermonte, responded to allegations of illegal levies (extortion) in the Free Nutrition Food Program (MBG) in Ciledug, Tangerang, which was widely discussed on social media.

Philips emphasized that this program is strictly managed by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) with clear systems and procedures.

"I cannot comment on what is on social media for the time being. What is clear, we focus on what is run by the government and the National Nutrition Agency. We have clear systems and procedures," Philips was quoted as saying by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 21.

Philips appealed to the public to be more careful and wise in receiving information circulating outside the official government channel.

Previously there were promises from irresponsible parties. We hope the public realizes that this program is fully managed by BGN," he added.

Responding to uploads on social media in the form of screenshots that mention extortion worth Rp. 10,000 for the purchase of food containers, spoons, and forks at a school in Ciledug, Philips explained that currently the government is still focusing on implementing the program.

"To run a program of this size, it takes full attention and energy from all parties involved. Things related to social media are expected to be addressed by the public more wisely," he said.

Philips also emphasized that all official information regarding the nutrition kitchen and implementation of the MBG program can only be accessed through the official BGN channel.

He reminded the public to remain vigilant against those who try to take advantage of this program for personal gain.

The allegation of extortion emerged from a report that said parents were asked to pay Rp. 10,000 to buy groceries, with a time limit for collecting money until January 15, 2025.

The MBG program itself provides free nutritious food for students, with special food containers that are different based on class levels.
