British PM Promises Strong Relations With US Under Trump's Administration
JAKARTA - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday (20/1) congratulated Donald Trump for his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, as well as reaffirming the eternal power of the British-US alliance.
In an official statement by the British government, Starmer highlighted historical relations between the two countries, which have been established through cooperation in the fields of security, economic prosperity, and global stability.
For centuries, the relationship between the two countries has been based on continued collaboration, cooperation, and partnership. This is a very close bond. Together, (British and US) have protected the world from tyranny and worked for security and prosperity together," said PM Starmer.
Trump's return to the White House, after his previous term from 2017 to 2021, marks a new phase in trans-Atlantic relations.
Starmer acknowledged Trump's closeness to history and deep respect' for Britain, and expressed confidence that the privileged relations between the two countries would be even stronger under their leadership.
The Labor Party leader also revealed that he and Trump had discussed ways to deepen trans-Atlantic partnerships in their first meeting in September 2024, and committed to building strong phonations of the historical alliance of the two countries.
