The Fire At The Jompo Panti In Serbia Killed 8 People, Allegedly Deliberately Burned

Eight people were killed and seven others injured in a nursing home fire outside Belgrade, Serbia.

The fire broke out at 03.30 a.m., Monday, January 20 local time, with 30 people inside the orphanage, RTS reported, citing the head of the government department for the emergency situation, Luka Causevic.

The fire was extinguished quickly and all the injured victims were taken to the hospital in Belgrade. A woman is in serious condition and uses a ventilator.

The Prosecutor's Office said the fire was caused by one of the residents of a nursing home who was among the fatalities.

"There are indications that this tragedy was caused by criminal activity carried out by one person," said Nemanja Starovic, Minister of Manpower, Employment and Social Affairs.
