The Closure Of The Climbing Line On Mount Semeru Is Extended

JAKARTA - Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has extended the closure of the hiking trail on Mount Semeru. This closure is carried out to maintain the safety of visitors.

Initially, the closure of the Mount Semeru climbing route was implemented from January 2 to January 16, 2025. Then the closure was extended until February 8, as stated in a statement uploaded on Instagram @bbtnbromotenggersemeru.

The closure was carried out by the TNBTS after seeing the weather conditions that were still extreme in January 2025, as appealed by the BMKG. There is also a threat of natural disasters due to extreme weather, so the closure must be implemented.

"Observing weather conditions and taking into account the appeal from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency regarding extreme weather during January 2025, the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center extended the closure of the Mount Semeru climb until February 8, 2025," said Head of BB TNBTS, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha in a letter uploaded.

The statement also appealed to people who want to visit Mount Semeru to comply with applicable closures and not to carry out illegal climbing activities. This is applied to the safety of visitors.

"We appeal to prospective visitors to comply with the announcement of the closure of the Mount Semeru climbing and not to carry out illegal climbing activities," he added.

Meanwhile, apart from Mount Semeru, the hiking trails on several mountains in Indonesia were also closed in early 2025, due to extreme weather reasons and ecosystem improvements. Some of them are Mount Merbabu, Mount Rinjani, to Mount Prau.
