The Legal Team Ready To Show The KPK Wrongly Set Hasto As A Suspect At The Pretrial Session

JAKARTA - PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto's legal team is ready to fight the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) through a pretrial hearing which will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. This step is called to seek justice.

The Hasto camp is known to have sued the status of a suspect in the bribery case for the interim replacement (PAW) of members of the DPR and the obstruction of the investigation to the South Jakarta District Court (PN).

"We value (pretrial, ed.) this is the suspect's legal right in order to seek justice."

"Moreover, referring to the Constitutional Court's decision Number 21/PUU-XII/2014 in 2015, the determination of whether or not the suspect is the object of pretrial," said Chairman of the PDIP DPP for Legal Reform who is also Hasto's attorney, Ronny B. Talapessy, in his statement, Saturday, January 18, 2025.

Ronny said the loophole for the KPK's mistake in determining Hasto as a suspect would be presented in court.

"This Constitutional Court decision provides protection for someone who underwent a wrong legal process when he was named a suspect," he said.

Meanwhile, KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto was not afraid of the pretrial lawsuit filed by Hasto's camp. He emphasized that no matter how many lawyers were brought, it did not affect his party.

"Yes, of course, if we talk about whatever lawyers want and then those who accompany the suspect, that's right," Setyo told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

Instead of worrying about the number of lawyers accompanying Hasto, Setyo said the KPK was more focused on dealing with pretrial.

"In principle, we are all confident, optimistic about how we face the petition or lawsuit from the suspect in filing a pretrial," said Setyo.

The KPK through the legal bureau team will present everything before the panel of judges who are hearing pretrial.

"It's like this word, we have prepared a formal proof," said Setyo.

"Especially if the demands or entry to the material ones, for example, even the single judges ask, we will also prepare them," he said.

Previously reported, the KPK developed a case of alleged bribery related to the management of PAW DPR members involving the former KPU commissioner, Wahyu Setiawan, and his fugitive, Harun Masiku.

PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and Donny Tri Istiqomah, who are PDIP cadres and lawyers, were later named as suspects.

Hasto was also charged in the case of obstruction to the investigation by the KPK. He allegedly asked Harun Masiku to damage his cellphone and run away after the arrest operation (OTT) was carried out in 2020.

In this case, Hasto Kristiyanto has undergone examination as a suspect in the bribery case for the interim replacement (PAW) of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the obstruction of the investigation on Monday, January 13, 2025. He was not detained after undergoing examination for about 3.5 hours.
