Jonathan Christie Meets Axelsen At The Semifinals Of The India Open 2025: Winning Opportunities Always Exist

JAKARTA - Jonatan Christie is one of two Indonesian representatives who qualified for the semifinals of the India Open 2025.

He will meet the opponent Viktor Axelsen (Denmark) in the last four which will take place at the Indira Gandhi Arena, Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 21.00 WIB.

Jonathan did not want to be inferior in front of Axelsen. He was motivated that the chances of winning were always open.

"Against Viktor, I want to try my best. The opportunity to win is always there," said Jojo, his nickname, on the PSBI website.

Jonathan and Axelsen have met 12 times. The Indonesian men's singles only won two of them six years ago.

The last meeting between Jonathan and Axelsen took place in the quarter-finals of the 2023 BWF Super 500 Kumamoto Masters tournament. At that time Jonathan gave a fairly tight three-game resistance before losing.

Jojo is the second seed, while Axelsen is trying to get back to his best due to injury.

This situation opens up opportunities for Jonathan to record his first victory since 2019 over the world's former world number one men's singles.

Meanwhile, Jonathan stepped into the semifinals of the BWF Super 750 tournament after winning over China Taipei's representative, Lin Chun-Yi, in the quarter-finals through the rubber game with a score of 22-20, 9-21, and 21-10, on Friday, January 17, 2025.

"Praise God for qualifying for the semifinals. It's not easy, the opponent plays fast enough and attacks a lot. I try to be more patient and calm to play the game," he said.

Apart from Jonathan, Indonesia has Gregoria Mariska Tunjung who also qualified for the semifinals of the India Open 2025.

He will face the first seed in a tournament from South Korea, An Se-young, at 18.30 WIB.
