Pertamina NRE Pede Becomes A Driver For Renewable Energy Development
JAKARTA - Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) emphasizes being a driving force in accelerating the development of renewable energy in Indonesia.
In a discussion that took place at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), United Arab Emirates, January 15, Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) CEO John Anis stated that Pertamina NRE is committed to supporting the global energy transition towards the final target of zero carbon emissions (NZE) by 2060.
"Pertamina NRE is committed to being the main driver of the energy transition in Indonesia by developing bioethenol and geothermal energy. These are two strategic initiatives that not only reduce dependence on fossil fuels, but also support the stability of the national energy supply," he said in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday.
When discussing with Jim Pagano, who is the CEO of Terra-Gen Power Holding America, John explained that Indonesia has the potential for renewable energy of more than 3,500 gigawatts (GW), which includes solar energy, wind, bioenergy, and geothermal.
He said Indonesia has great potential for new and renewable energy (EBT) such as geothermal which Indonesia is in the ring of fire which is very profitable geographically.
For this reason, Pertamina NRE needs government support through proactive policies such as renewable energy subsidies, fiscal incentives, and collaboration with the strategic private sector.
"We are also working with international investors to ensure sustainable financing in green energy projects, this is a strategic step that we are taking, collaboration is important," he said.
Furthermore, according to John, increased interest in green energy development can grow from the private sector through funding models such as green bonds and public-private partnerships.
Not to forget that an inclusive approach in the development of renewable energy projects is also very important.
"We are not only focused on energy production, but also on empowering local communities. Optimizing project sites is designed to ensure that the surrounding community gets economic and social benefits, such as new jobs and more equal access to energy," he said.
John stated that there are still several challenges faced, such as energy transmission and regulations that support the performance and improvement of technology and network reliability.
He conveyed, with a strong international collaboration approach, both Indonesia and various other countries in the world will show that the transition to clean carbon through large-scale renewable energy is not just a dream, but achievable goals.
In addition, PT Pertamina (Persero) Vice President for Corporate Communication Fadjar Djoko Santoso said Pertamina carried out various initiatives to support the government's target of achieving NZE by 2060, including building and developing transitional energy in Indonesia.
"Pertamina NRE's participation in various forums at the global level is a positive step for socialization and building partnerships with international partners in the development of New and Renewable Energy," said Fadjar.
