If The Cabinet Approved Ceasefire, Israel's Hostage Release In Gaza Will Start Sunday
JAKARTA - Ceasefire in Gaza and a deal to release hostages is expected to begin on Sunday's original schedule.
"Waiting for approval from the security cabinet and government, and the agreement goes into effect, the release of hostages will be carried out in accordance with the planned framework in which the hostages are expected to be released on Sunday," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.
The Israeli cabinet will hold a meeting today to grant final approval for a ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages.
The long-standing split between Israeli ministers, made the vote, which was originally scheduled to take place yesterday, had to be postponed to Hamas and then accused of being the source of the delay.
"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was told by the negotiating team that an agreement had been reached regarding the release of the hostages," the Israeli PM said in a statement.
It is planned that the security cabinet will meet today before the cabinet's full meeting after which to agree to the agreement.
