Prabowo Wants To Transfer Infrastructure Projects To Private, AHY: We Present Good Cooperation
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) welcomed President Prabowo Subianto's plan to involve the private sector in working on infrastructure projects.
According to AHY, this step will result in good cooperation between the government and the private sector or the private sector. According to him, cooperation with the private sector with the government needs to be done.
"Of course we have to bring good cooperation between the government and the private sector," he told reporters written Friday, January 17.
Furthermore, AHY said that if the private sector advances and develops, there will be more opportunities for sustainable infrastructure development in Indonesia.
"If the business world, the private sector, can also progress and develop, of course, we will be better able to provide opportunities for more sustainable infrastructure development," he said.
Private Private Is More Efficient
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto planned to transfer strategic project tenders to private companies. He assessed that private companies have more experience and can also be more efficient.
Initially, Prabowo said he wanted to give a bigger role to private companies in Indonesia. He also denied that he would stop infrastructure development in Indonesia.
"My brothers and sisters want to give the private sector a bigger role. Some said I stopped infrastructure projects, not true, I didn't stop, I changed it," Prabowo said at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Consolidation Conference, at Ritz-Carlton, Jakarta, Thursday, January 16.

Therefore, Prabowo plans to transfer several key infrastructure projects to private companies. The reason is that the private sector is considered more efficient and has experience.
"Infrastructure will be mostly left to the private sector to build. The private sector is more efficient, the private sector is more innovative, the private sector is more experienced, brothers and sisters," he said.
For example, said Prabowo, private companies can enter to work on infrastructure projects such as toll roads, ports, and airports. Meanwhile, the government will focus on development that directly touches the people.
"So later on toll roads, ports, airports, I submit, the private sector please move everything," he said.
"I have said many times that later the government will (build) the most important and core ones regarding protection for the people and so on. But what can be done by the private sector should be the private sector developing, the private sector working for everything," he continued.
