President Jokowi Wants The New Capital To Become The World's Reference Smart City

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo wants the nation's capital to become a smart city or smart city whose design is the world's reference. He conveyed this when he opened the 50th Anniversary of the Indonesian Planning Experts Association (IAPI).

"Let's design the new capital city in East Kalimantan to become a city and a region with a truly smart design that becomes a pioneer of the city, which becomes world references," Jokowi said in his remarks broadcast on the YouTube account of the Presidential Secretariat, Saturday, April 17th.

Even so, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta emphasized that the concept of a smart city should not only be limited to digitizing public facilities or services. Jokowi said that smart cities are also related to careful planning in environmental, social, cultural and economic aspects.

"The basis of a smart city is a smart design city that provides perfect comfort for its citizens who are then assisted by digital devices to improve the comfort of its citizens," he said.

Furthermore, Jokowi also wants this design to be carried out carefully so that in the future a city that is more inclusive and open to its citizens can be built.

This is because careful planning will greatly contribute to the quality of life of citizens as well as economic, social and cultural activities. "Also on the image of Indonesia in the eyes of the international community," he said.

"Let's make the cities in Indonesia into smart cities starting with a smart design. Let's make the provinces in Indonesia a smart province starting with a smart design," Jokowi concluded.
