KPK Ultimatum: No One Should Regulate And Block Witness Statements In Hasto Case

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has issued an ultimatum, so that no party should try to regulate information or obstruct witnesses in cases of bribery in the management of interim replacement (PAW) members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the obstruction of the investigation that ensnared the Secretary General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto.

This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardhika in response to the absence of a number of witnesses in this case. Among them are Maria Lestari who is a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDIP faction to PDIP cadre Saeful Bahri.

"I am sure that investigators also agree with me that there should be no arrangement of witness statements, no parties should try to prevent witnesses from being present to provide actual information," Tessa told reporters quoted on Wednesday, January 15.

Tessa said her agency could apply Article 21 of the Anti-Corruption Law or obstruction of investigation for those who did it. Because, the act interferes with the work of investigators.

"If it is done then it can be exposed to threats of articles blocking the obstruction of the investigation," he said.

Previously reported, the KPK developed a case of alleged bribery related to the management of PAW members of the DPR involving former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and his fugitives, Harun Masiku. In the development of this case, Hasto Kristiyanto and Donny Tri Istiqomah, who are PDIP cadres and lawyers, were named new suspects.

Hasto was also charged in the case of obstruction to the investigation, because he allegedly asked Harun Masiku to damage his cell phone and run away after the arrest operation (OTT) was carried out.

Hasto Kristiyanto has undergone examination as a suspect in the bribery case for the interim replacement (PAW) of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the obstruction of the investigation on Monday, January 13. He was not detained after undergoing examination for about 3.5 hours.

Hasto made no statement after being questioned. However, his attorney, Maqdir Ismail, said the request for information had been completed.

"I want to convey that today's inspection process has been completed. For today," said Maqdir, Monday, January 13.

Maqdir said Hasto would be re-examined in this case. However, he did not say the exact time.

"For other matters related to the case, please ask the investigator," he said.
