Kai Havertz Gets Many Threats After Arsenal's Defeat To Manchester United

JAKARTA - Arsenal's wife, Kai Havertz, has shared the harsh messages she received on social media after Arsenal lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Sophia Havertz shared two uploads on Instagram Story on Monday, January 13, 2025, including one upload in which someone threatened to slaughter the baby who had not yet been born.

Arsenal were eliminated from the FA Cup after losing on penalties to Manchester United 3-5 after a 1-1 draw to two extra rounds.

The German striker missed the chance to win the match at the Emirates Stadium when he fired home from close range and then his penalty was saved on penalties.

Sophia Havertz expressed her disappointment over the abuse received after the match.

"For anyone who thinks it's okay to write something like this, it's really shocking to me. I hope you're ashamed of yourself," Sophia wrote.

"I'm not sure what to say, but please my friends be more respectful. We are better than this," Sophia said in response to threats to her baby.

Football authorities and police have tried to fight online abuse against players.

The English Football Association (FA) said last year that it provided funds of about 25,000 pounds to help police eradicate incidents at the Euros.

At Euro edition 2021, three English players, Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho were subjected to racial abuse on social media after failing to execute a penalty in a penalty shootout loss to Italy in the final.

FIFA has also prepared Social Media Protection Services, which it says protect players, teams, and officials from online harassment by keeping them free from hatred.

At the 2023 Women's World Cup, 20 percent of players received discriminatory, abusive, or threatening messages. Then, about half of that number is anti-gay, sexual, or sexist.
