Israel Has Not Received Pro-Proosal Draft Ceasefire From Hamas

JAKARTA - Israel has not yet received a draft agreement proposal to stop fighting in Gaza and repatriate hostages.

Earlier, an official familiar with the negotiations said Qatar had handed over to Israel and Hamas the draft "finals" of the ceasefire and a hostage release agreement designed to end the war in Gaza.

Israel's high-level security delegation arrived in Qatar on Sunday to hold talks on a hostage-taking and ceasefire deal in Gaza,

Qatar and fellow Egyptian and US mediators made new efforts to reach an agreement to stop fighting in the region and release the remaining 98 hostages there before President-elect Donald Trump took office on January 20.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the delegation included Mossad Chief David Barnea, head of the domestic security service Shin Bet Ronen Bar and military chief shareholder Nitzan Alon.

Trump's envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, met on Saturday last weekend with Netanyahu, after meeting on Friday with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Israeli and Palestinian officials since Thursday said some progress had been made indirect talks between Israel and the militant group Hamas but did not elaborate.

Both parties closed the detailed meeting that was being worked on.

It's unclear how they will bridge one of the biggest gaps that have occurred throughout the previous round of negotiations.

Hamas demanded an end to the war while Israel said it would not end the war during Hamas' control of Gaza and pose a threat to Israel.

Israel launched its attack on Gaza after Hamas fighters stormed its border in October 2023, killing 1,200 people and holding more than 250 people hostage, according to Israeli tallies.
