Good News For Palembang Residents, City Government Collaborates With Hundreds Of Hotels To Give Free Food

PALEMBANG - The City Government (Pemkot) of Palembang, South Sumatra (Sumsel), collaborated with hundreds of hotels to provide free food to residents in need through the rest of the breakfast.

"Yes, the rest of the breakfast at the hotel, we picked them up and packed with boxes, then we distributed them to residents around the hotel in need," said Palembang Mayor Cheka Virgowansyah as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 13.

Based on Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), he said, hotel breakfast foods are prohibited from being given to hotel employees, so the rest, which are still very decent, are usually wasted.

Therefore, his party uses it to be useful to residents. Imagine, he said, if only one hotel can get 20 boxes of rice, then per day through hundreds of hotels there will be 2,000 residents who get a decent and free meal.

He said the innovation was also considered capable of reducing waste production through food residue.

Cheka explained that Palembang City has a population of 1.7 million people, of which each population will produce at least 0.4 kilograms of garbage which is usually garbage from food residue.

As for the innovation, he said, residents get free food and without the need to use the government's budget, because all the food is purely from the hotel.
