BPBD Asks West Coast Lampung Residents To Beware Of Follow-up Floods Due To Broken Embankments

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) appealed to residents of Pesisir Barat Regency, Lampung Province, to be aware of the possibility of aftershocks that occurred on Friday, January 10 evening.

West Coast BPBD Secretary Hermansyah explained that the flood conditions in three pekoks (villages) in Karya Penggawa Subdistrict had receded, but residents had to remain alert to the threat of further flooding.

"BPBD continues to urge residents who live close to the river to continue to increase their vigilance, considering that the current weather conditions are uncertain and always extreme, the rainfall that occurs is quite high and has the potential for flooding in rivers is very large," he said when contacted, Monday, January 13, was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning that occurred on Friday, January 10 afternoon until the evening had resulted in hydrometeorological disasters in the form of floods from overflowing river water.

"We must remain vigilant, especially since there is damage to embankments that have collapsed in several rivers such as Way Laay and Way Mayah," he said.

He explained that the flash flood that hit the residential area of three pekon in Pesisir Barat Regency caused dozens of houses to be flooded so that many residents had to evacuate.

In this incident, he said, there were no casualties, but caused material losses suffered by residents, including livestock that were washed away and basic materials carried by the current in the storage warehouse.

Natural disasters are unavoidable events, he said, however, the impact of the disaster could be mitigated so as not to cause more victims.
