Minister Of Education And Culture Nadiem Ensures Not To Erase Pancasila And Indonesian Language Courses

JAKARTA - Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Anwar Makarim confirmed that he would not remove Pancasila and Indonesian language courses. According to him, the two subjects will remain in the curriculum at the higher education level.

Nadiem emphasized that this PP SNP was prepared by referring to Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System and the substance of the compulsory curriculum is written exactly in accordance with the Law.

"However, the regulation of the compulsory higher education curriculum has been re-regulated in Law Number 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education and it seems that it needs to be emphasized," said Nadiem in his statement in Jakarta, Friday, April 16.

Previously, the discourse on the loss of Pancasila and Indonesian language courses at the higher education level was widely discussed by the public. This is in line with the issuance of Government Regulation Number 57 of 2021 concerning National Education Standards (PP SNP).

Nadiem also appreciated the input from the public. Therefore, he emphasized that Pancasila and the Indonesian language have always been and will remain compulsory in the curriculum.

"So that to prevent further misunderstandings, we will propose a revision of the PP SNP regarding the substance of the compulsory curriculum," he said.

Submission of the PP SNP revision refers to article 5 paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, then Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System, and Law Number 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education.

"We thank you for the attention of the public and at the same time ask for the blessing so that the harmonization process with other ministries or institutions related to the revision of Government Regulation Number 57 of 2021 can run smoothly and be completed soon," said Nadiem.
