Expert: RI Deserves To Be A Referral For Koklea Implant Operations To Children In Asia
JAKARTA - Elenary, Nose and Sores Specialist (THT) doctor Harim Priyono from FKUI assessed that Indonesia deserves to be a health reference in Asia regarding the operation to install koklean implants on children thanks to the completeness of medical technology at the hospital.
In a statement received in Jakarta, Sunday, Harim stated that Indonesia has government-owned and private hospitals with high-quality equipment recognized by the world, even Singapore admits that reliability.
"Our tools are complete and of high quality in their class, Indonesia is ready as a center of excellence and we want to be the center of reference for ear disorders," said ANTARA, Sunday, January 12.
With this great potential, continued Harim, Indonesia can be increasingly known as a reference center for kaclea implant surgery in Asia.
According to him, government support, in this case the Ministry of Health, and increasing the capacity of continuously targeted therapists, can help more children regain their hearing.
"Indonesian doctors' ability to carry out coclea implant surgery is very competitive. The THT polyclinic of Mitra Keluarga Kelapa Gading Hospital, for example, is able to carry out the implant installation process in just 45 minutes per patient and more than 20 children in a month are handled," he said.
"Koklea implants are hearing aids grown through surgery. In contrast to conventional hearing aids that only harden sound, koklean implants replace the function of koklea (smoker's house) to convert sound into electrical energy which immediately stimulates hearing nerves," he said.
He explained that hearing loss often occurs in children, with one of the main causes being middle ear infections or media autotitis.
"This infection is often caused by bacteria that develop from the virus, especially in children. About 90 percent of children have experienced media autotitis," he said.

In addition to infection, he said, hearing loss can also be caused by chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, as well as other factors such as ear impurity buildup.
"It is important to remember that cleaning your ears should not be arbitrary and not use cotton buds. It is better to check with the THT doctor at least once every six months," he said.
