Abel Tesfaye Wants To Leave His Persona As The Weeknd

JAKARTA - The Weeknd as the stage name for Abel Tesfaye will be dated. The 34-year-old singer wants to leave the persona after releasing her upcoming studio album, "Harry Up Tomorrow".

In his latest interview with Variety which aired on Friday, January 10, Tesfaye mentioned the trilogy of his album ending in Harry Up Tomorrow, will be followed by a new chapter, where he took off the name that had raised him.

"I would say (to leave) my whereabouts as The Weeknd," Tesfaye said, citing NME, Sunday, January 12.

"That is the space of thought I have to enter, which I no longer want," he continued.

The 'Save Your Tears' singer admitted that the stage name had brought him to great success in the music industry, but he felt there was a time when he had to end it.

He also referred to his performance at the SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles in 2022, where he suddenly canceled the show due to losing his voice in the middle of the show.

"When is the right time to leave, if not at your peak? Once you understand too much who I am, then it's time to turn around," he added.

But the statement to give up the stage name does not mean Tesfaye stopped making music at all.

He wants to continue to be in this industry with new challenges.

"But everything has to feel like a challenge. And for me right now, The Weeknd, whatever it is, everything has been mastered. No one will do The Weeknd better than me, and I won't do better than what I'm doing now. I think I've overcome every challenge as this person," he concluded.
