UN Special Reporter Asks Poland To Arrest Benjamin Netanyahu

JAKARTA - UN special whistleblower Total Albanese asked Poland to uphold the principle of universal justice by arresting Israel's chief government authority Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited the country, and avoid double standards.

Albanese's statement highlighted the previous criticism of Poland of Mongolia for failing to detain Russian President Vladimir Putin on the orders of the International Criminal Court (ICC), as well as reminiscent of the importance of consistently implementing international law.

"ICC members are required to arrest the people who are the subject of the #ICC warrant," wrote Albanese, quoted by Anadolu.

"Poland, which denounced Mongolia for not capturing Putin, must arrest Netanyahu if he visits. The application of law selectively erodes universality of international justice and multilateralism," he added.

Israel's chief authorityBenjamin Netanyahu and former defense chief Yoav Gallant were charged with a detention order by the ICC in November 2024 on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

In addition, the Israeli government faces genocide lawsuits by the International Court over its war in the enclave.
