Terrorists Will Find New Ways Even If The Government Try To Stop The Spread Of Radical Thought

JAKARTA - The government's method of sweeping social media and short message applications to prevent the spread of radicalism is considered ineffective. Because terrorist groups will find new ways to spread the understanding they believe in.

"So even if, for example, currently Wawan (Indonesian Intelligence Agency spokesman Wawan Purwanto) and the existing government or state are cutting all electronic links, if it works, yes there must be a way," Ali said in an online discussion, Friday, April 16. .

According to him, there are important things that the government must pay attention to besides the issue of communication media. The government, said Ali, should pay more attention to the relations between terrorists and one another.

He gave an example with the leader of Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, who no longer uses gadgets or other electronic devices to communicate but uses letters. In fact, Ali Imron's older brother, Mukhlas alias Ali Gufron, once sent a letter to Osama bin Laden before his execution in 2007.

"What at that time said that if the three of us were to be executed by Indonesia, Al Qaeda had to hold a discussion as much as possible in Indonesia, that was the contents of the letter," he said.

However, this condition changed over time. At present, the terrorist style in spreading radicalism is changing to a more modern one, namely by utilizing short message applications.

Not only that, terrorists also often make quick recruits to their prospective members.

So, he believes that the government should prioritize deradicalization and socialization. This is done in order to save society from the spread of radical ideology.

Moreover, it is important to remember that the jihadists did not give up even though their path was blocked. "So once again discussing the problem from the media that terrorists use the media is only one way," he said.

"But that's not really, the most important thing is this understanding, this understanding that has mushroomed in Indonesia in particular, is what we have to pay attention to," concluded Ali.
