Malaysia Open 2025: Putri KW Dispelled In Quarter Finals
JAKARTA Women's Singles Kusuma Wardani was eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open 2025 because she lost against Thailand's representative, Ratchanok Intanon.
The second duel at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, on Friday, January 10, 2025, was fierce for a rubber game for 68 minutes with the final scores 13-21, 21-15, and 16-21.
"Ratchanok played more tightly than our first meeting. He was more resilient by wanting to hold back and chase the ball wherever I put it," Putri said in the statement.
After sharing the first two games, Intanon dominated as a big fighter in the deciding game. He started the game very comfortably to outperform his opponent 6-0.
Putri managed to rise from behind and had led 13-10. However, the many mistakes he made made the situation quickly turn around.
"Even though I lost in the quarter-finals, I am quite happy with my performance. It is good enough to start in 2025, especially since this is the Super 1000 tournament," said Putri.
This victory is also Intanon's revenge for Putri after previously in their first competitive clash at the 2024 Malaysia Masters, he lost two straight games.
Putri is the eighth Indonesian representative to be eliminated from this event. His defeat also ensured that the drought of the women's singles title would continue.
The last Indonesian women's singles to win there were Susi Susanti in 1997. At that time, Indonesia secured three titles along with the men's singles and doubles.
