Indonesia Becomes A Full Member Of BRICS, Erick Thohir: Can Benefit Each Other
JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said that the joining of Indonesia as a full member of BRICS benefits trade with countries in the Southern region.
Furthermore, Erick said, joining Indonesia with BRICS will also open up greater opportunities to expand trade cooperation with these countries.
South trade is a trade that we must encourage. BRICS is also a lot of friendly countries that are against the trade, yes, we are with China, we are with India, we are with Russia," he told reporters written Friday, January 10.
According to Erick, Indonesia's geopolitical independent position also makes it more flexible to enter various global organizations. Including BRICS.
"So this is a country that of course we are independent, we have no part of any geopolitical with BRICS, we are still WTO, we keep trading, yes, this is Indonesia," he said.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that Indonesia had been accepted as a member of BRICS.
"It has been accepted by BRICS. So it's good because it means with various countries in our global society that have been included in the club," he told reporters, Wednesday, January 8.

In addition, Airlangga said that the joining of Indonesia as a full member of BRICS can participate in cooperation involving many countries and is expected to further open access to trade and investment.
