Sugeng also appreciated the Yogyakarta City KPU for successfully holding the 2024 Pilkada in a professional and transparent manner.
"The KPU of Yogyakarta City has ensured that the entire regional election process runs in an orderly, safe and conducive manner," he said.
The elected candidate for Mayor of Yogyakarta, Hasto Wardoyo, said that the victory was not the end, but the beginning of a big responsibility.
"We will not do one thing that is euphoric because this is indeed not the end of the struggle, but this is the beginning of my time when Mas Wawan and I had to carry out non-light duties and responsibilities," said Hasto.
The former regent of Kulon Progo assessed that the city of Yogyakarta had succeeded in showing a democratic process that was free from various forms of violence in producing the mayor.
"In other places, violence can happen. The name is pressing, wani piro (how brave), it's also a form of true violence. However, thank God in the city of Yogyakarta there is no such money politics," he said.
Hasto expressed his dream to make Yogyakarta a "Singapore Kecil" or a leading city capable of competing globally.
By relying solely on human resources (HR), supported by very few natural resources (SDA), he believes that the City of Yogyakarta will still be able to become a Center of Excellence (central excellence) and the Center of Reference (referral) like what Singapore does.
"The big aspiration is because Yogyakarta has the potential as a city of culture, a city of education, a city of students, and a city of tourism," he said.
