After Meeting With Apple Boss, Minister Of Industry Agus Collects Remaining Investment Debt Of IDR 162 Billion

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita asked Apple to fulfill its obligation to pay off the remaining 10 million US dollars or around Rp. 162.3 billion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp. 16,233).

This is a record for Apple in its negotiations with the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) on Tuesday, January 7.

"We also yesterday told Apple that there is still a commitment that they must pay off, whose media friends have memorized that the value is around 10 million US dollars.

"That's the commitment they have to pay off," Agus said at a press conference at his office, Wednesday, January 8.

The debt is calculated in the 2020-2023 cycle. Agus said that his party would conduct an audit to the Apple Academy to ensure that their obligations had been completed.

"Later in the near future, if the 10 million dollars have been executed, it has been implemented, we will send an audit (team) to audit the whole of each Apple Academy that has been formed by Apple. We will audit whether it is true," he said.

He added that Apple had also expressed its commitment to pay off remaining investments that had not been fulfilled.

"They made a commitment yesterday to immediately pay off by strengthening the existing Apple Academy facilities," he concluded.

Based on VOI records, Minister of Industry Agus has received the presence of Apple officials, namely Apple's Vice President of Global Policy Nick Amman at the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) office, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Agus said that his party had received an official proposal from Apple Inc on Monday, January 6, 2025.

"We have received the official proposal. Yesterday, January 6, (2025) we received an official letter from Apple," said Agus.

He said the negotiation process between the Ministry of Industry and Apple officials was led by a technical team, in this case the Director General of Metal Industry for Transportation and Electronic Equipment (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Setia Diarta.

"So, now it is in the negotiation stage between the team led by the Director General (Setia Diarta) and the team led by Nick," he said.

Meanwhile, on a separate occasion, Director General of ILMATE Setia Diarta also revealed the contents of the proposal that had been received by the Ministry of Industry. He said that this meeting focused on submitting Apple proposals related to TKDN.

Apple submits a proposal and is ready to meet the TKDN requirements in the Minister of Industry Regulation (Permenperin) Number 29 of 2017.

"Their contents will meet the requirements in Permenperin No. 29, that's what it says," he said, Tuesday, January 7.
