JAKARTA - The price of red cayenne pepper at Jatinegara Market and Kramat Jati has reached Rp130,000 per kilogram (kg).

Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), I Gusti Ketut Astawa admitted that there has indeed been an increase in prices for the red chili pepper commodity at this time.

"Yes, the price of cayenne pepper is correct (to experience an increase)," said Ketut to VOI, in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 8.

This price increase, continued Ketut, occurred because farmers experienced crop failure due to extreme weather.

Due to this condition, the supply of red cayenne pepper has decreased.

"In December the rainfall was high, so our production became disrupted. Several flood areas and so on. So that the supply fell, prices would automatically rise," he said.

According to Ketut, the high rainfall and flooding that occurred made chilies rot quickly.

In addition to flooding, strong winds and pest attacks also affect chili plants.

Referring to data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPSN) Wednesday, January 8, the national average price of red cayenne pepper reaches IDR 85,100 per kg.

However, in some markets the price has reached Rp130,000 per kg.

Like in Jatinegara Market, it reaches Rp. 130,000 per kg. Meanwhile, Kramatjati Market costs Rp. 133,150 per kg.

Then, at Pasar Minggu, the price of red chili pepper was recorded at Rp110,000 per kg.

Meanwhile, the price for the type of red chili is around Rp. 57,750 per kg. The price of this type of chili also recorded an increase of Rp. 300 or 0.52 percent nationally on average.

Likewise, the type of green cayenne pepper is Rp. 60,900 per kg. This type of chili has increased by 21.31 percent nationally on average.
