AC/DC Guitarist Duo Childhood House In Sydney Demolished, Developer Immediately Apologizes
JAKARTA - AC/DC became the pride of Australia when it talked about music. The band started its journey from Sydney, by Malcolm Young's brothers (guitar - deceased) and Angus Young (main guitar). Therefore, Malcolm and Angus's childhood home, located on Burleigh Street in Sydney's western part, was listed on the list of National Trust's Historic Homes in 2013.
However, the house was torn down with heavy equipment a few weeks ago, after being bought by property developers in February 2023 for 5.8 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp93.98 billion.
After learning that the house has historical value, the developer is said to apologize immediately. They admitted that they were never informed about the significance of the property culture, and gave the reason the house was destroyed because of the accident.
"We regret that the previous old owner did not tell us the important part of this property background," said Leon Kmita as general manager of Burwood Square Pty Ltd, citing news.com.au on Thursday, January 8.
"Knowing this relationship after our plan went through really surprised us. We sincerely apologize for this negligence," he continued.
Kmita said that her party is currently trying to save materials from the location to create special rooms such as cafes or bars, which fans can use as gathering places to celebrate the legacy of AC/DC.

On behalf of the team at Burwood Square, I would like to express my deepest regret. We recognize how deep this location resonates in the AC/DC community and fans around the world. We feel responsible for respecting the AC/DC legacy and making up for mistakes to all the fans who have great respect for this band," said Kmita.
"Even though we can't change the past, we are dedicated to celebrating this important part of their story. To global AC/DC fans, know that we hear you, appreciate your deep admiration for this legendary band, and are dedicated to improving it."
For information, Young's family moved to Australia after migrating from Scotland in 1963.
They moved to Villawood Migrant Hostel after arriving in Australia, then temporarily staying in several other homes in Burwood, before moving permanently to the historic home in 1965.
Two of Malcolm's and Angus's brothers attended Burwood Primary School and then Ashfield Boys High School, in a suit that inspired the band's stagewear.
